The Show! The end!

finished product

So its all over and the last touches are done.

I looked at different labels, care label and hanger ideas as part of my branding. Thinking about my collections style and theme I looked at keeping a simple and elegant swing ticket that just illustrates the brand and who the collection is for.

I also looked at a care label as alot of my garments are made from different fabrics or more than one type of fabric combination so i decided on saying that all the garments should be hand washed with care as they are all hand made and this will prolong the life of the garment.

The last thing I looked at was a hanger design as although I have decided to sell the garments on Asos Market place if any were to go in the shop the whole outfit should tie in with the branding so I looked at how I could incorporate the glitter theme and make a boring hanger a bit more eye catching.

Please keep an eye out for all my garments on Asos Market place under Creating and Recreating as all profits will go to the Cyrenian Charity!

Thank you!

Mutts Nutts

When hunting for models for the fashion show, a funky mens shirt company called Mutts Nuts contacted me to help out with the cause and donate a few shirts for us to sell or auction off!

After a few emails back and forth we received the shirts and immediately thought they went well with the reused and recycled theme from the different patterns on each individual shirt.

We got given a variety of shirt and decided that we would show them at the end of our fashion show and let the audience see them all before selling them. We thought about styling them very simply with black leggings or bottom halves to not take the attention away from the shirt. As they are mens shirts some were very big so we either focused on them being over sized or tied the ends up making it more of a cropped shirt yet not taking away any attention from the style and pattern.

Cyrenian Fashion Show!

So myself and two other group members have arranged a fashion show. We had alot of stress finding a venue but eventually found one that would let us have a room for free. We just had to pay a bond of £100 for the bar staff which we should get back if enough people come.

The Coventry SQ is where we got our room, we had room to get changed in the stair well and a small stage where we could show designers info ect.
We found a photographer for the night and also got a Dj from one of Coventrys clubs all for free.

Ideas coming together

I have always been thinking metallics throughout this whole making process and now i can see all my ideas coming together.

Almost all of my garments have a metallic element to them or will be paired as an outfit with another metallic one. I have also decided that my models will be wearing tights or knee high socks. I have made glittered tights which can be worn in the photo shoot and on the fashion show as this looks better than bare skin and the glitter will attract the light in the movement.

I have also been thinking about the make-up for my photo shoot as I want a really heavy smoky eye/ glitter effect.

This look however wouldn't be suitable for the fashion show as the models will be used again for other collections and their looks wont be the same as mine, so for this I will have to think of a simpler eye liner effect.

I have also thought about the hair for the photo shoot, to get the best view of the garments the hair on the model should be up and out of the way. For a simple and quick look i have decided on a braided crown and some glitter hair spray.

Glitter!!

So I made a little glitter DIY video to show you how I made my tights which I will use for my photo shoot! Was very easy and cheap as I used old tights with small holes in that I don't wear any more!

Its all metallic

So to make the best use of the fabric I have, ive been starting to do two tone outfits with panels of the metallic fabric as I have a big amount of this left.

To make a dress in this way, I took my original dress pattern and retraced it so that I could draw on the new lines and know where I needed seam allowance.

I decided on a sweeping panel on the side covering the dart, a v neckline and a racer back.

After working out the pattern pieces it was just a matter of cutting it all out in the fabric and sewing it together!

Im really pleased with the results and the combined colours of the fabrics, all that's left to do is make a facing and add a zip!

Ive started on a new garment, im hoping to make this shirt into a long loose shirt dress that will either be bleached or dip dyed to soften the colour and make it a more interesting garment. So far I have just looked at how it fits and where the seam would be for the bottom half of the skirt.

Heres a sneak peak at tomorrows garment!

I dont like skirts

So I was saying how I had no bottom halves of outfits, well I made some put it on and fitted then attached the elastic waistband, thought id try it for size today and nope, not getting up my legs........ ive even been going to the gym!
So that's two skirts that possibly wont be worn, ill see what I can salvage from this.... might find a very slim model with no bum.....
Anyhoo it became clear that I had to make new ones. So instead of using a skirt of mine for size I used the bottom of the silver dress pattern which I already tried on and know fits!!

So I chopped off the bottom half of a rather shiny stretchy top to make a nice skirt, lets hope this one fits real people!

This was the top, I quite like the fabric so have decided to keep the top half as a crop top.

Taking in the top was a quick over locker job so I went back to skirts, using my dress pattern I used a pillowcase and some contrasting gold fabric, im still deciding to have the back as the back or the other way around with a big chunky zip....

Then I really did get bored of skirts so I took apart a skirt and made this crop top/ bralette.
it is quite fitted as I am not using elasticated straps or elastic under the bust just a simple zip at the back, because I have used cotton is it best to not add elastic as it may stretch the bra cups out of shape and not give support.

I think i may end up having more than 8 outfits if i can work out the correct size of a skirt! Wish me luck

Overlocking everywhere

So today ive finished my silver dress! yay

I can also say that I have 3 bottoms now, so im getting closer to having a collection! The finished garments will be up tomorrow but for now I can show you the sewing pile!
I have a big list of things I need to sew once ive changed the sewing machine and over locker to black thread!
So I've also started working on this vintage night gown trying to reshape it to be an elegant evening dress. So far I have added darts to the back and some pleats to the front whereby I will be adding a strip of gold binding to cover the stitches where the pleats will be secured. I am also going to add gold buttons all the way down the front in keeping with the metallic theme.
I am yet to decide on the length of the dress, to keep it full length or crop it to a high low skirt. I am also still working out the lace on the neckline, I feel like it is too vintagey and need some brightening up. So I may decide to spray it with or embellish it, there is also the option of getting rid of the lace all together.

Ah decisions, decisions!
